New Year’s Eve proposal the perfect tonic for Diarmuid and Josh

New Year’s Eve proposal the perfect tonic for Diarmuid and Josh

June 2, 2017 – Kilkenny Rivercourt Hotel

Diarmuid Keane and Josh Paul had their first date over a few glasses of wine in White City, London and their connection on a dating website proved to be one that would change both their lives.

The couple have since made London their home with their dog called Sayang, a miniature Schnauzer, who they admit is the love of their lives.

Diarmuid and Josh got engaged on New Year’s Eve 2015 after Diarmuid got down on one knee just after midnight. As he says himself “Thankfully Josh said yes.”

Josh hails from Rutland in England, while Diarmuid describes himself as “Irish born and bred,” having being brought up in a small town in Co Kilkenny.

LOCATION The ceremony and Reception were in Kilkenny Rivercourt Hotel, and was celebrated with 92 guests in attendance. “The location of the hotel was just magical with the backdrop of the Kilkenny Castle and the river Nore, explained Diarmuid “The day was made even more perfect with the weather on the day being so sunny.”

“We had lots of our guests complimenting the food and I have to say we could not fault it at all. So tasty and beautifully presented and an excellent service from all the staff. Our MC for the night was superb and went of his way to make everything run smoothly.”

ATTIRE The couple were both dressed in tails. Diarmuid was decked out in black tails with a red cravat & cream waistcoat, while Josh donned grey tails with a golden tie and waist coat.

Both also had a red and cream rose pinned to our suits that were hired locally from Hennessey’s Formal Wear in Kilkenny.

FLOWERS Recommended by the hotel, Maruta Burtniece took care of the flowers.

CAKE A local baker called Chris from “Homebake Cakes” provided the cake. He created something completely unique in the form of Kilkenny Castle

MUSIC Thank Funk, a 7 piece Waterford Band with a brass section

PHOTOGRAPHER Photography by Ben.

WEDDING THEME ”We are both fanatical about Pink Floyd so our tables were named after Pink Floyd albums and the table plan was made up of photos from these albums,” explained Diarmuid. “The backboard was a photograph of David Gilmour on Stage in the Royal Albert Hall.”

FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF THE DAY “We had hired Irish Dancers to do the first dance for us, but they unexpectedly pulled myself and Josh onto the floor to do the Riverdance. It was such great fun. It really did kick the night off to a great start and got everyone onto the dance floor.”

HONEYMOON Seven nights in the Maldives on a half board basis. The love birds swam with dolphins, manta rays and all sorts of amazing sea life.

FIRST DANCE “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher” – Jackie Wilson

UNIQUE OR PERSONAL TOUCHES Josh created the wedding programme and ceremony text which went down a treat and became a souvenir for guests to take away with them.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ADD? “We had asked all the guest to upload their photos onto a website which would capture the moments the photographer couldn’t. This worked a treat and we will be sorting through these for some time to come.”
