Sallyanne and Derry, where did the idea for l’Ecrivain emanate from?
After we got married all Derry ever wanted was to have his own restaurant. Having looked and looked in Dublin we finally opened on July 7th 1989, 18 months after our own wedding. We wanted a theme and what better in the land of Saints and Scholars that l’Ecrivain – the French for ‘The Author/Writer’. We have been welcoming weddings at l’Ecrivain from day one, so we have a lot of experience with all types of weddings.
Derry, can you tell us about your journey from starting out to where you are as a chef today?
After 40 years in the kitchen, I have seen the food industry in Ireland develop from its infancy and I’m very proud to still be part of it. I love the industry and both Sallyanne and I are so proud of all the people that have started their culinary journeys with us and have gone on to be successful in their own establishments.
What sets l’Ecrivain apart from other restaurants?
Our excellent food, wonderful service, magical ambiance and our city centre location (five minutes away from Stephen’s Green, Merrion Square etc. for photos) together with our Michelin Star make us unique in Dublin restaurants.
What kind of package do you offer for weddings?
