Paul and Michael got acquainted with one another at a bar in November 2011 and got hitched at the splendid Station House Hotel nearly six years later in front of 155 of their friends and family. The couple were engaged at a New Year’s Ball in Castle Newry and it came as a complete surprise to Paul when Michael plucked up the courage to get up on stage, in front of a huge crowd and pop the question. Needless to say, Paul said yes and the rest, as they say is history.
THE WEDDING TEAM Both Paul and Michael went their separate ways to get their suits but ended up getting them from the same place, Debenhams. Michael opted to be decked out in an all tweed ensemble, while Paul donned a dark blue suit. Kane’s Florists in Dublin were in charge of the flowers on the day and Creative Cakes in Blanchardstown created a delicious cake.
The entertainment side of the wedding was very important to the couple. Kooky Ukes played before, during and after the ceremony, while Uptown took care of the post meal music. Paul and Michael chose a song they both love, Florence and the Machine’s ‘The Dog Days Are Over’ as their entrance music into the hall. The photographer on the day was Alan Dunne and videographer were Little Bear Films. A friend of the couple’s, Aishling Campbell made the invites and Mary Losty of Spiritual Ceremonies officiated the ceremony.
“After a lot of searching, “Uptown” band was recommended to us, so we booked them. They took on board all our suggested music. Laura was a pleasure to deal with and she kept her promise that the dance floor would not be empty, which it wasn’t! My Mam always wanted to rock the boat on our wedding and she got that going with 100 or so people rocking the boat that went down well also. Uptown Band were amazing, and everyone commented on how great they were – such a professional and experienced outfit.” Rihanna’s “We Found Love in a Hopeless Place’ was chosen as the first dance song. The honeymoon, which lasted for three weeks, was a two-part stay in Mexico and Miami.
FAVOURITE MEMORY Paul and Michael had so many memories from their wedding day. Paul was really touched by a present and a poem that Michael sent him on the morning of their big day, while Michael opted for the moment that the couple walked from the woods into the ceremony as his special moment.
Tell us about your experience with The Station House Hotel: When we were looking at venues for our wedding the most important things to us were: privacy, quirky venue, great food and service, Paul explained. The Station House does not disappoint on any of this. It is one of the most unusual venues in Ireland, given its outdoor space and history. We both fell in love with it on arrival. The Station House team – to name a few, Vivienne, Henry, Conor and Emmet – is the most pleasant and reliable team I have ever dealt with.
The food is amazing which was very important to us. The outdoor ceremony setting is indescribable; it’s a little woody oasis in the country. All our guests were blown away by the ceremony in the forest. The afters in the room are brilliant as it’s not too big. It’s just right and we had 155 guests! We had a family dinner the night before and the Station House handled everything so well.
As I keep on saying, the staff goes out of their way to make sure that everything you discussed and paid for happens. I would highly recommend this venue, you should check it out and thanks again to Henry and Vivienne, the wedding we had will live with us for ever, you made our dream come true!
